Bishops Tawton is a small village located within two miles of Barnstaple; North Devon’s regional capital and ancient river-port town at the lowest crossing point of the River Taw flowing into the Bristol Channel. The lovely waterside village of Instow, where you can enjoy the quiet inlet with sand dunes and a sandy beach along with a selection of pubs, restaurants and the excellent John’s of Instow delicatessen, is just seven miles to the west. Just across the water is Appledore, where you’ll find plenty of quaint village streets to simply wander and take in the surroundings and traditional fisherman’s cottages. The historic port town of Bideford is just a further two miles away and offers a taste of traditional North Devon life with its weekly pannier market, much like Barnstaple’s. Some of the best beaches in the UK, like Saunton Sands, Woolacombe, Westward Ho! and Croyde are easily reached by car from the property and are popular with surfers, windsurfers and beach lovers alike. There are plenty of local attractions and amenities nearby, including a leisure centre with swimming pool, purpose-built tennis centre, bowling alley, trampoline centre and an array of adventure and activity places to enjoy. The region offers family attractions such as the Big Sheep and Milky Way theme parks, Dartington Crystal Factory, Tapeley Park, Rock Park. The Tarka Trail goes past the front of the property giving easy access to all the walking and cycling that this offers, following a disused railway line spanning from Barnstaple to Braunton northwards and all the way to the fringes of Dartmoor National Park in the south. Other stunning areas to consider visiting whilst in North Devon are Lynton & Lynmouth, Valley of the Rocks and Exmoor National Park to name just a few. And then there’s the South West Coast Path which offers, in North Devon alone, 90 miles of walks with amazing and dramatic coastal views. Whether you’re seeking the perfect base to explore all that North Devon has to offer or the perfect getaway location to relax and unwind in complete comfort whilst making the most of the one-acre garden, West Brae is the perfect choice for a family of four or two couples. Beach 8 miles.
